Purchase Windows Server and SQL Server Subscriptions with Azure in CSP

Published: July 11, 2018

On 10 July 2018, Microsoft announced that Windows Server and SQL Server subscriptions are now available to purchase through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program.

The ability to have a cost-effective way to support predictable cloud workloads is hugely important to customers. In May, Microsoft announced Azure Virtual Machine Reserved Instances being made available on the CSP program, which gave many customers a more favourable purchasing model against pay-as-you-go. Now that Windows Server and SQL Server are available on CSP alongside Azure RI, this extends cost savings to a wider range of customers.

A key aspect of the cost savings facilitated by server subscriptions on CSP is Azure Hybrid Benefit. Azure Hybrid Benefit can enable customers to achieve significantly lower costs, savings of up to 79% when combined with Azure RI, without compromising on flexibility. Previously, only customers with Software Assurance would have been able to obtain the Azure Hybrid Benefit.

What are the main benefits in a nutshell?

  • Maximum savings on Microsoft server workloads
  • Access to Azure Hybrid Benefit (more cost savings) without having Software Assurance
  • Ability to combine Windows Server and SQL Server subscriptions with Azure RI to further cut spend
