Symantec Backup Exec provides comprehensive backup and recovery functionality for desktops and servers. Backup Exec 2010 can protect individual files and folders, Exchange data stores, databases and more whereas Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 provides backup and recovery of entire systems.
Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 provides protection for servers and desktops including Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Backup Exec 2010 introduces deduplication technology, improved archiving capabilities and the latest platform support such as Exchange 2010 and Hyper-V 2008 R2, both of which can be backed up and then either completely restored in seconds or be granularly restored. The core media server in Backup Exec 2010 includes a range of options. The Continuous Protection Server provides disk based data recovery and reliable point-in-time recovery, the Advanced Open File Option reduces the chance of file corruption when backing up open files, the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option enables tape-based server recovery and 5 licenses of the Desktop and Laptop option are provided for backing up clients. Backup Exec 2010 also supports a wide range of options and agents for backing up Exchange mailboxes, databases, remote agents for backing up Linux, Netware and Mac systems and more.

New Deduplication Option
- Deduplication reduces storage costs, sizes and time. Any data that is identified as being duplicated is only stored once. Depending on the organisational structure of your systems and data, this can dramatically reduce storage sizes

New Archiving Options

Storage Hardware
Backup Exec requires at least one storage media drive and/or single-drive robotic library and the appropriate controller card. Removable storage devices and non-removable hard drives can also be targeted for backups.
Note: Support for a single robotic library drive is available when you purchase Backup Exec. To enable support for additional robotic library drives, you must purchase Backup Exec Library Expansion Option.
