Advantage Database Server is a complete, high performance relational database server for client-server applications. Advantage Database Server comes with a range of advanced features including a transaction processing system, extended procedures, full text search capabilities, encryption and user access control. It supports multiple operating systems and development environments including Delphi, .NET and Java. Delphi developers can take advantage of the included Advantage Data Components which provide native access to the Advantage Database Server data through a complete set of VCL components.

With no mandatory configuration requirements and zero administration needed, Advantage Database Server is easy to install yet provides enterprise-caliber functionality.

Features

High Performance

Extended Procedures

Advantage Extended Procedures function in a similar fashion to traditional stored procedures however with the added benefit that developers can write, store and execute them on the server using their preferred application development tool or with an ANSI SQL PSM 2003 standard scripting language.

Full text search capability

Use full text search to find words or phrases in character, memo and BLOB fields. The full text search function CONTAINS can be used in SQL statements and record filters.

Compression

Communications compression helps provide reduced network traffic between Advantage clients and the Advantage Database Server, where on a 10/100 Mbit network, you can expect to see a 5% to 20% speedup.

Optimised filters

Advantage Optimized Filters (AOFs) help to speed SQL WHERE clause processing by using high-speed indexes to filter out data.

High-speed lock management system

The intelligent lock management system helps eliminate lock retries and network traffic. Support for read-through index locking increases multi-user index read performance immensely and write lock queuing and elimination of lock retries greatly increases multiuser database application performance.

Database encryption

Advantage Database Server supports encryption of record data with password protection to help protect it against unauthorised viewing.

Triggers

Support for triggers make it easy to maintain business rules at the database level and are independent of the client application.

User access control

Create user access accounts to control access to database tables, columns, views and stored procedures. Individual user's access to the tables, columns, views or stored procedures can be specified. User groups can also be defined in the database to make it easier to set up users with similar access rights.

Transaction processing system

Advantage Database Server includes a transaction processing system that enables multiple insert/update/delete statements to be performed in one operation with the knowledge that either all the operations will be successful or that none of the operations will occur (rollbacks).

Referential integrity constraints

Referential integrity constraints help to verify the validity of your data and maintain relationships between records:

• Unique and primary keys - no two rows in a table have the same value for the set of key columns.
• Referential integrity - parent-child relationships are enforced. Through the use of RI constraints, the database server, instead of your application, can enforce many business rules.
• Field-level constraints - ensure that the data entered for each individual field in a record is logically valid. The fieldlevel constraints include the minimum/maximum allowed value for the field, whether the field can have NULL value, and the error message associated with the constraint verification
• Record-level constraints - ensure that the data entered for related fields in a record is logically valid before flushing the record to the database. The record-level constraints include a logical expression that defines the relationship between the fields in the record and the error message associated with the constraint verification

Replication

Advantage Replication provides the ability to automatically distribute data changes from one database to another so that it is easy to maintain identical database information at different locations (available as separately licenced functionality).
