Product Information
SUSE Manager helps manage Linux servers with a single, centralised solution. It provides automated, cost-effective software management, system provisioning and monitoring capabilities - allowing for easy management of Linux deployments across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
Features
Management module
- Zypp update stack - fast and efficient update toolchain to enable the rapid and consistent deployment of patches and updates
- Server groups - centrally push software by grouping servers
- Custom repositories - create customised repositories for the delivery of either operating system packages or RPM-based applications and content
- SUSE Manager API - create custom scripts that programmatically manage tasks or integrate with 3rd party applications and management tools
- Scheduler - schedule updates at the time of your choosing
- Role-based access control - ensure administrators can only access those systems that have an appropriate level of authority
- Search - search operating system instances by packages, patches, or system specifications
- Virtual guest management - manage virtual guests on VMware, Xen, KVM, and Hyper-V as if they were running on bare metal
- Small footprint agent for IBM System z & appliances - the agent deployed by SUSE Manager is smaller than that of other solutions and fits comfortably within the footprint of RAM- and storage-constrained Linux environments.
Provisioning module
- Bare metal provisioning - automate provisioning of OS instances on bare metal hardware using AutoYaST, Kickstart and PXE boot
- Provision virtual guests - provision virtual guests on both KVM and Xen hypervisors
- Existing state provisioning - provision new servers with the identical characteristics of a server that is already running or with a predefined configuration
- Server roll-back - instantly roll-back to a previous version or configuration
- Configuration management - centralise management of configuration files for server groups
- Configuration profile management - develop and maintain standardised configuration profiles for servers or groups of servers
- Application provisioning - provision RPM-based applications for the automatic deployment of complete and integrated software stacks
- Provisioning scripts - migrate custom scripts for Red Hat Network Satellite, create new AutoYaST and Kickstart scripts, or use SUSE Manager to develop new scripts based on existing installations.
Monitoring module
- Probes - create custom probes or use built-in operating system probes and 3rd party application probes to monitor server health, virtual guests and applications
- Probe groups - grouping of probes enables faster deployment and improves the consistency of monitoring
- Reporting - monitor server health from one console with single-page updates on each server's status
- Notifications - receive warning notifications via email or pager when servers are exceeding utilisation thresholds or if services are not responding.
Deployment
- SUSE Manager Proxy Server - can be added as necessary and is easily deployed in remote locations
- SUSE Manager Appliance - SUSE Manager server and SUSE Manager proxy server are deployed as appliances, either on physical hardware or as virtual appliances
- Database support - provides a built-in Oracle XE database, but can also leverage existing Oracle 10g or 11g databases, to locally store all data related to the managed Linux servers.
