Benefits
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor
Features a bare-metal, high-performance and secure hypervisor based on enterprise-hardened RHEL kernel with KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) technology. The image-based small-footprint hypervisor has support for VLAN, network bonding and wide-range of network devices including 10 GB interface. It supports all 64-bit x86 server platforms that are certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (requires Intel-VT or AMD-V hardware virtualisation extensions). It supports all storage systems certified on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager
Features a centralised management system with a search driven GUI supporting up to 100s of hosts and 1000s of virtual machines. It is built on RHEL 6 and JBoss EAP for powerful performance and scalability.
Fully featured enterprise management
Powerful features include live migration, policy-based workload balancing, high availability, power saving, cluster maintenance, image management, templating, thin-provisioning, event monitoring and more.
Leading performance and scalability
Hosts support up to 160 cores and 2 TB of RAM. Guests support up to 64 vCPUs and 512 GB of RAM. Clusters support up to 200 hosts.
Support for Windows and Linux virtual machines
Supports a range of Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions. See the system requirements for specific details.
Advanced SELinux kernel-based security
The highest level of kernel-based security provides immediate intrusion detection and isolation for virtual machines and hosts with Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) and sVirt protection.
Automation and customisation
A RESTful API allows all aspects of RHEV to be automated, managed and configured programmatically. A Python-based command line interface provides scripting and automation capabilities. A hooks mechanism allows administrators to define scripts to modify virtual machine definitions or run system commands.
Self-service user portal
Enable end-users to self-provision virtual machines, define templates and administer their own environments.
Reporting and monitoring
Detailed historical reporting capabilities are included for monitoring historical usage, trending, quality of service etc. Over 25 prebuilt reports and dashboards are included.
Editions
