Monitoring
Local Server Monitoring features include:
- Windows Services (incl. custom services)
- Available disk space
- Machine & software performance
- Errors written to Event Logs
SQL Server Monitoring features include:
- Database availability through ODBC - can your users access the database ?
- Query availability, with full results analysis - do key queries work run correctly ?
- Database locking & blocking
- Long running queries (SQL Server 2000 and above)
- Errors written to the SQL Server log file
- Server & individual database performance
Alerting
If faults are detected, Sentry-go can either take the appropriate action automatically - e.g. to restart a failed service, clear down temp. files etc. or alert one or more Administrators or departments via e-mail, network message or your chosen means of delivery - e.g. by SMS or pager notification.
Reporting
With its fully integrated web server, you have immediate access to many HTML-based reports, direct from your desktop browser. Information comes directly from the monitoring & alerting engines either to show you what has happened recently on the server (e.g. recent alerts), or the real-time picture of what is happening now. These include:
- The current Server, SQL Server & Database status
- The current SQL Server Activity
- The current SQL Server Lock Status
- The current Database & Transaction Log status
- Blocked Queries
- Long Running Queries
- Web-based Interactive SQL
Configuring
Many options are pre-configured, so you're monitoring key areas of the server straight away - simply edit the threshold limits to match your environment. For ultimate flexibility, however, all options can easily be controlled through the Configuration Utility, which allows you to enable, disable monitoring features, edit existing values and monitor new areas - e.g. custom services & performance items etc.
