.NET Code Protection
Since .NET code is delivered as a generic high level language (MSIL), code can easily be converted back to any standard programming language using freely available decompilers. SLP Services adds a new level of sophistication to traditional code encryption by allowing function level transformation of code and metadata within the protected method. By transforming and encrypting only key code selections overhead is significantly reduced.
Unique Code Partitioning and Transformation
The selective one-way code transformation mechanism provides you with an even higher level of protection for highly sensitive IP functions. This protected code partition is compiled into the application binaries, making it a permanent and integral part of the application. The Secure Virtual Machine (SVM) is integrated with the transformed code, enabling the transformed code to run within the native .NET framework at runtime. Since transformed code is practically unreadable, there is minimal risk of code tampering on client machines. And, since every SLP Services client can receive a unique permutation of the SVM, there's greatly reduced risk to other clients in the unlikely event of a crack.
Licensing
SLP Server 2008 allows software vendors and publishers to more flexibly and effectively monetize their software. ISVs can create multiple offers based on a single image of the software simply by creating digital licenses that map to pre-defined features. Features can be sold individually or accumulated into a set to create SKUs. The developer API allows the application to be implemented in a manner that supports product definition flexibility post-build. Additionally, the application can be instrumented for usage monitoring at the feature level. The SLP Server enables ISVs to build a more secure activation process into their products. Vendors purchase SLP Activations to create licenses and allow end-users to more securely activate their products.
