Bing Maps Winter Update 2018
News|12 March 2018
Microsoft announced updates and new features to Bing Maps, its enterprise mapping platform.
This year has seen new REST APIs for Fleet and Logistics Management, Geocoding and Routing improvements, and an open source Fleet Tracking solution.
Now the V8 Web Control has been updated, with a new feature called Configuration Driven Maps added. Configuration driven maps allow you to quickly and easily create a map using your data with little to no coding required. Instead, create a JSON configuration fill that specifies the data sets you want to render along with some map options and then easily generate a map from this. These maps are great for creating reusable map apps which are data driven.
The most recent update has seen support for truck routing added into the directions module. This allows you to calculate routes which take truck attributes such as weight, cargo type, and vehicle dimensions into consideration, while also providing most of the existing features in the directions modeuls such as an input panel and well formatted turn by turn directions.
There are now more than 240 code samples within the Bing Maps V8 Code Samples Project. Nearly any sample that is created to help a developer is added to this project and contains quite in-depth code samples. Go to the GitHub Project or view the Live Code Samples site.
Bing Maps has an interactive SDK which provides a number of useful editable code samples that demonstrate how to use the various features of the Bing Maps V8 SDK. Try Bing Maps here.
