The McAfee anti-virus scan engine stops every type of virus and malicious code threat, including “traditional" viruses, email worms, Internet worms, DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, backdoor and remote access Trojans, and zombies. Using technology that drills down into compressed data, VirusScan is also able to find hidden threats buried in .zip and other compressed file types.
Proactive protection is delivered through advanced heuristics and generic detection, which allow VirusScan to protect—in advance—against new, unseen viruses and other threats.
Centralized management and reporting with ePO
Active VirusScan is integrated with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator—one of the only truly scalable security policy management tools—for policy management and detailed graphical reporting. ePolicy Orchestrator is a centralized authority to enforce protection compliance, providing a single console to manage your McAfee Security deployments.
Quick, hassle-free updating
With its AutoUpdate functionality, VirusScan uses pull technology to automatically retrieve the latest updates, keeping all systems current and protected. Updates are fast, smart, and bandwidth-friendly.
Email protection
Email is often the entry point for viruses, worms, and other malicious code trying to enter the network. Active VirusScan protection extends to MAPI and POP-3 email formats, keeping users of Web-based email safe from mass-mailer viruses and other threats.
Internet filter
Employees surfing the Web can unknowingly launch malicious Java and AppleX applets. The advanced VirusScan Internet filter defends desktops from these applets, and gives administrators the flexibility to block access to certain Web sites.
Download scanning
Active VirusScan prevents users from downloading infected attachments from Web sites or FTP servers, with download scanning of email and Web content.
Dedicated protection for NetWare file servers
McAfee NetShield for NetWare protects file servers through real-time scanning to detect and clean viruses and other threats. By caching file status when an initial scan is performed, NetShield ensures that clean files are not rescanned unless and until modified, significantly improving performance and efficiency.
This product is available under the McAffee Security Perpetual Plus program. This transactional program is available from eleven nodes upward and combines a perpetual licence with one year of PrimeSupport Priority Plus (24/7). Key program features include:
- Volume-discount rewards for larger purchases
- Reorder option allows customers to make subsequent purchases of other products at band level of their initial or previous order for a mininum of 5 nodes.
- PrimeSupport Priority Plus provides 24/7 technical support and softare maintenance
- Software fulfillment is completed through a media kit and/or a software download.

The McAffee Security Perpetual Plus Program combines one year of 24/7, unlimited incident technical support and software maintenance in a standard license combination.
PrimeSupport Priority Plus provides customers with priority telephone access to Network Associates experienced technical support team. After business hours, English telephone access is available for emergency product assistance when critical operations are affected.
PrimeSupport also provides customers to updates, upgrades and critical DAT files.
Renewing PrimeSupport
PrimeSupport should be renewed every year to keep McAfee Security software up-to-date and to have access to technical support.Late renewal of PrimeSupport Priority Plus will require the renewal entitlement start date and end date to be backdated to the original expiry date. An additional out-of-support fee may be applied.
