Ektron CMS300 is a revolutionary product that is helping to redefine the Web content management industry. CMS300 integrates the latest Web technologies in an easy-to-use and easy-to-integrate solution - while still being affordable! With the highly-acclaimed XML editor—Ektron eWebEditPro+XML—Ektron CMS300 can manage both XML and XHTML content and syndicate content to multiple devices.

Ektron CMS300 (Version 2.6) Released: May 23, 2003 New features include:

Improved RSS Syndication:
RSS Sydication is a way for a Web site to allow other sites to publish some of its content. Syndicated content can include data such as news feeds, events listings, news stories, headlines, project updates, excerpts from discussion forums or even corporate information.

This revolutionary XML content management solution incorporates
advanced XML authoring capabilities within a robust CM framework!

XML features:

  • Strictly enforce content and page layout with built in support for "Smart Web Forms" and schema valiation.
  • Deliver content to multiple devices (e.g., PDAs, mobile phones, WEB TV) -- saving users from the tedious task of creating duplicate content.
  • Easily share XML content across B2B transactions
  • XML schema validation: Both review and revision effort is drastically reduced because the accuracy and format of your Web content is managed using XML schema validation.

Content management features:

  • Seamless Active Directory integration CMS300’s new Active Directory integration* allows organizations to centrally manage users and user groups as well as allow for a single point of authentication through their directory service.
  • Web Services Support including content and navigation. The information can even be presented in HTML or XML format.
  • RSS Syndication A new trend in news syndication is RSS which has been included in this latest release. CMS300 can syndicate content to any RSS crawler available.
  • Library Folder Replication on the files system When enabled, subdirectories are created in the uploads directories to replicate the structure of the content folders in CMS300.
  • Load balancing support Load balancing distributes traffic efficiently among network servers so that no individual server is overburdened. Administrators can now configure CMS300 to distribute site assets such as images and files to multiple servers.
  • Component-based content management solution Designed to be a "building block", Ektron CM solutions can be easily integrated into your site-even if your site uses complicated business logic, or other third party components like e-commerce and personalization. Because this solution uses a component-based approach, we don't get in the way of your integration. This gives you the ability to add your own dynamic ASP code, or any special business logic programming.
  • Runs on multiple dynamic Web application servers! Currently supports Microsoft ASP, Microsoft .NET, Macromedia ColdFusion and the PHP Web application server platforms!
  • 100% browser-based Authorized business users with an Internet connection and Web browser can easily add or update Web content—giving them "anytime anywhere" Web publishing. Browsers supported: Internet Explorer 5.0 (and higher), Netscape Navigator 4.7x and 6.1 (and higher).
  • Intuitive user interface Two ways to easily navigate to content for editing or adding: a) use your Web site as the user interface to find content by navigating through your site, b) use the Windows Explorer-like interface—similar to finding a document on your computer, then clicking the document to edit.
  • Document check-in/check-out The document check-in/check-out feature ensures that content blocks can be edited only by one user at a time. The color of the border around the content block is set by the content status (i.e., GREEN=published, YELLOW=pending approval, RED=checked out).
  • Simplified file uploading Upload any kind of file, graphic, or data without needing to give anyone FTP access to the site. Web site administrators determine allowable file formats for upload to the repository.
  • Content history tracking View or restore any previously published version of a content block.
  • Robust content management workflow Administrators can selectively add "approval" permissions on a per-user basis.
  • Comprehensive metadata support Adding and maintaining metadata to your site is both simple and automatic. Administrators define the location and usage of metadata, while users add and/or update metadata as needed—making your Web or intranet site search engine friendly.
  • Summary/teaser tag Streamlined link management for Web pages with long lists of summary content—ideal for job listings or press releases.
  • User-maintained site navigation The ecmCollection function is highly customizable, allowing developers to easily define how the collection data will be displayed on the Web page. Site administrators can designate "super users" to manage site navigation (or a similar display of information) within a new folder titled "collections". They can add and remove items from a navigation menu (or for a press release listing) and easily re-order them. This powerful feature makes site navigation as easy to manage as the content itself and reduces the need for IT or Webmasters to be involved with all navigational site changes.
  • Extending the API to build dynamically-generated DHTML menus Developers can easily build advanced navigation by extending existing functionality. Ektron CMS300 provides an API so developers can interact directly with the content management solution. There are hundreds of examples of DHTML menus which can be easily customized into your site using this tag.
  • Separation of content from presentation using style sheets Sites managed by Ektron content management solutions can easily take advantage of cascading style sheets (CSS). In addition, style classes can be applied to content within the editor. Style sheets store presentation information about the content in a separate file. To learn more, read about advantages of using style sheets to separate content from style
  • Maximized content control Organize content with unlimited folders and subfolders. This lets administrators manage large volumes of Web pages while easily enforcing corporate Web site standards (e.g., fonts, styles, layout, permissible file format).
  • Administrator control All aspects of the system can be controlled by the Web site administrator, including the Web site look and feel and user privileges.
  • Syndication of content With just one line of JavaScript developers can display dynamically-managed content blocks (within the Ektron content database) on any static or dynamic Web page. With this feature, you can easily create and maintain shared content across multiple sites.
  • Advanced search functionality Site visitors can quickly find specific content using several search options.
  • Extensive branding support Web developers can now easily "brand" this product to match the graphics or style of either their own company or their clients' companies. This branding lets developers alter the graphics, colors, and styles of the application. Extensive documentation is included to aid developers with the available customization options.
  • Library item overwrite permission The administrator can now give "super users" library overwrite permissions. This will allow designated contributors the ability to update images or files on the server.
  • Scheduling of content Content can be scheduled in two ways: a) with only a "Start" date/time, or b) with a "Start" and an "End" date/time.
  • View staged site prior to approval Logged in users view the site as if all content changes had been approved and are currently live on the site.
  • Virtual staging server Users with approval permissions can review content changes before content is published live to the site. Additional hardware is not needed for a separate staging server!
  • Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle and Microsoft Access integration Includes utilities to fully exploit the power of Microsoft SQL server (Version 7.0 and 2000). Also supported is MySQL and Oracle 8i and 9i.
  • Migration path from Ektron CMS200 or Ektron CMS100 Customers currently using either Ektron CMS200 or Ektron CMS100 have a migration path to Ektron CMS300.

WYSIWYG XML editor features:

  • Automatic Image Uploading! Images from content copied and pasted from applications like Microsoft Word into Ektron eWebEditPro+XML can now be automatically uploaded to the CMS300 library. Included in the functionality are image upload time, ability to select multiple images within a document, and the selection of whether the image(s) should be uploaded now or later.
  • Search and Replace: eWebEditPro+XML supports search and replace functionality in both WYSIWYG and HTML mode.
  • XML commenting capabilities Notes can be added directly into the content, much like the "Comment" feature in Microsoft Word. With this collaborative feature, users can increase their efficiency as content moves through an approval process.
  • The best Microsoft Word content filtering on the market! Content copied and pasted from Microsoft Word into Ektron eWebEditPro+XML can be processed at three different levels: keep maximum formatting, convert for more standard, easy-to-change format, or conform to preferred styles. No other WYSIWYG editor on the market can give you this amount of filtering control.
  • Developers can easily hide XML tags from users: The WYSIWYG presentation of XML tags is meant for users with little or no experience with XML. The XML tags are displayed to the user in a format defined in the XML display file. Customization includes:

* Tag names can be visible or invisible.
* Glyph (icon) can be defined for each XML tag.
* Display style attributes can be set for each XML tag.
  • Advanced Style sheet support Web site administrators can enforce the way content is displayed through the use of cascading style sheets. By linking to the presentation information instead of embedding it, updating the display is only done in one file thus reducing update headaches. With this method any content using the style sheet will be instantly updated.
  • Familiar, rich Web authoring environment Retains formatting of Microsoft Word text and offers full table support (nested tables, images within tables, modify properties), image support (preview/insert images, modify properties), and robust spell checking (check selection, entire content, or spell check as you type).
  • Spell check with or without Microsoft Word Users can still take advantage of robust spell check features (e.g., medical dictionaries, foreign language spelling) offered with Microsoft Word installed on the user’s computer. However, as an alternative users can now use Ektron’s spell check whether or not they have Microsoft Word installed.
  • Minimized support issues Configurable cleaning levels can produce XHTML compliant code, and MS Office 2000 filters reduce extraneous HTML tags.
