FindInFilesX 1.6 allows developers to instantly add a "Find In Files" feature to their applications.

FindInFilesX is an ActiveX component designed to assist developers to quickly add a text search utility to their end products. This can be very useful in document or knowledge management applications. The parsing of files for text is encountered often in all areas of software programming. A key feature of this OCX is that it runs on a separate thread allowing the end users application to continue functioning in a responsive manner.

  • Regular expressions can be used in the search criteria.
  • Single file or whole directory structures can be searched
  • The code required to integrate this component in an application is very small considering the functionality it provides.
  • Many search parameters are persistent across running of the end users application automatically. This means that the search criteria remains intact across runs of the end user’s application. Persistent items include:: Case Sensitive; Search Subfolders; Use Whole word only; Use Regular Expression; Thread Priority
  • The supplied VB program furthermore adds persistence for: History list for the text to search for; Extensions and directories to look in; Column Widths of the results window
  • Search Data can be saved to a tabbed delimited file which is easily imported into Excel
  • The ScanCompleted, ScanStarted, and OnError events provide programmers with real time information.
