Providing up to 99.8% recognition accuracy, FineReader 12 delivers up to 15% faster document processing than before.
FineReader also offers up to 30% better retention of charts and graphs, to simplify working with business documents. New and improved language capabilities help to raise accuracy even further.
Enhanced recognition technology for Arabic and Asian languages

Instant document opening and background processing
FineReader 12 allows immediate access to the documents you open, while the time consuming and resource intensive OCR process runs in the background. This means that while FineReader is working on recognition, you can view content, rearrange pages, edit recognized areas or even select snippets for immediate citation.
Quick quotes extraction
Extracting sections of text or tables now takes mere seconds with FineReader. Just select an area you need to copy and right-click on it to pull the quote – no need to wait while the rest of the document’s pages are being processed. FineReader will convert the selected area immediately, allowing you to insert it into another document.
Seamless conversion of tables and numerical data
New FineReader 12 improves table conversion by up to 40% saving engineers, financial professionals and educators significant time and effort correcting results.
Image Enhancement technology for better appearance of archived copies
Turn photographed documents into scan-quality images using the new automatic image pre-processing options, manually apply improvements such as auto-crop of multiple images or whiten background of old documents, which have turned yellow or grey with time.
Enhance the reading and printing experience for searchable PDFs by using the new PreciseScan technology which smooths pixelated characters, improving the visual quality of your documents.
Plus, the new tool for removing color stamps and pen marks assures better recognition quality and improves the appearance of basic business documents.
Faster and easier results verification and correction
The enhanced Verification tool now allows you to apply both spelling and formatting corrections, with intuitive hot keys and tab controls that make it easy to navigate through the verification process.
Send and retrieve files from the Cloud more easily
You can easily access popular cloud storage such as Google Drive, Dropbox, SkyDrive and more, opening or saving documents by using native Windows dialogs. In addition, FineReader 12 enables seamless document sharing through direct integration with Microsoft SharePoint Online/ Office 365.
Designed in a new Windows 8 look and feel
FineReader 12 is Windows 8 certified and utilizes new options provided by the operating system to make your work easier. Now you have quick access to one-click conversion tasks right from the Windows 8 start screen and can use basic touch gestures to scroll and zoom on laptops with touch screens.
Powerful, accurate OCR technology
Convert your paper based documents and image files to fully editable, fully formatted text documents. With highly accurate recognition technology, even on documents such as faxes, and the retention of formatting of tables and images, FineReader allows you to move to electronic documents with no retyping or reformatting.
Unique ADRT technology
Adaptive Document Recognition Technology (ADRT) is a technology specific to ABBYY that intelligently analyses multi-page documents and can accurately reconstruct the original layout. ADRT can reconstruct complex features such as headers and footers, page numbering, captions, footnotes, table of contents and more and export them to Microsoft Office.
Digital image recognition
Produce OCR text from digital photographs captured by cameras or even camera phones (2MP+ photo size required). FineReader provides a number of tools to adjust digital photos before processing to ensure the highest quality image for OCR processing. This includes: ISO noise correction, blurred image correction, image deskewing and despeckling, line straightening and more.
OCR technology recognises over 190 languages including a variety of Latin and Cyrillic languages, Greek, Armenian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Hebrew, and Korean. FineReader automatically identifies the appropriate languages and supports spell-checking capabilities for 39 languages (and supports Microsoft Office Word's custom dictionary).
Easy to use interface
Quick Tasks allow you to quickly select the required task and get the converted file with just a mouse click. The automated Quick Tasks dramatically reduce amount of steps typically required to process a document and helps to increase productivity.
Integrates with Microsoft Office
Export your OCR documents to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat or Reader. In addition, recognised text can be saved in a variety of file formats, including PDF, PDF/A, HTML, Microsoft Word XML, DOC/DOCX, RTF, XLS/ XLSX, PPTX, CSV and TXT. You can also launch FineReader directly from Office.
Save OCR documents to a text-based PDF that makes text search and retrieval easy. New PDF compression methods help to decrease the size of the produced PDF file whilst retaining the visual quality and the low file sizes and optimised content mean they can be published on the Web. FineReader also supports the creation of password-protected PDF files and other permission settings and complies with the latest encryption standards.
ABBYY FineReader reads both 1-D and 2-D barcodes. It recognises a barcode and displays its value.
High speed processing
FineReader leverages the full potential of multi-core processors to recognise multipage documents with maximum efficiency provided you have a multi-core processor. This feature is especially useful for high-volume document conversion.
