Teamprise is a suite of client applications for accessing Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server from outside of the Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Teamprise enables software development teams to use the source control, work item tracking, documents, and reporting features of Team Foundation Server from within the Eclipse IDE, and from other operating systems, including Linux and Mac OS X.

Implemented in Java, Teamprise will run on operating systems that support a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 or newer. Teamprise 2.2 is compatible with both Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 Team Foundation Server. Using the Teamprise Client Suite in conjunction with Visual Studio Team System, enterprise companies can now standardise on the use of Microsoft's Team Foundation Server for the Application Life-Cycle Management needs of both their .NET and Java development teams

Teamprise Plug-in for Eclipse

The Teamprise Plug-in for Eclipse allows developers to perform all of their source control, bug tracking, build, and reporting operations from within Eclipse and Eclipse-based IDEs, such as Rational Application Developer, JBoss, BEA Workshop, and Adobe Flex Builder. The Teamprise Plug-in for Eclipse integrates into the menu system of Eclipse as a standard Team Provider plug-in, but also provides developers with specific views and forms for interacting with the Team Foundation Server, such as the Pending Changes View and Team Explorer View. Developers using the Teamprise Plug-in for Eclipse have the ability to take part in the entire software development process in use by their organisation without leaving the comforts of their development environment.

Teamprise Explorer

Teamprise Explorer combines all of the functionality available to Eclipse developers using the Teamprise Plug-in into a stand-alone, cross-platform GUI application that is perfect for team members working outside of an IDE, such as graphic designers, QA testers, and project managers. Perform source control operations, browse the Team Foundation Server repository, edit bug reports, run work item queries, monitor builds, and view project reports all from within an application that has a native look and feel on the operating system you are using.

Teamprise Command-line Client

The Teamprise Command-line Client provides a cross-platform, non-graphical interface to Microsoft's Team Foundation Server, making it perfect for scripting and build scenarios or for developers who prefer a command-line interface. Users of the Teamprise Command-line Client have access to the same source control and work item tracking features found in the other Teamprise clients.

Other Features

Source Code Control

The Teamprise Client Suite provides support for all of the source control features of Microsoft's Team Foundation Server including: Get Latest, Check Out, Check In, Undo, History, Compare, Branch, Merge, Label, and Shelve. In addition, Teamprise also provides some additional features that may be familiar to developers using Eclipse, such as the Sync feature, which allows developers to see the state of the files in their local project in comparison to the state of the project on the server, in real-time. Teamprise users can also associate source control check-in operations with specific tasks, bugs, and other work items, providing for a level of traceability and integration unparalleled by other application lifecycle management solutions.

Work Item Tracking

Teamprise also provides full support for all of the work item tracking features of Team Foundation Server including the ability to create new work items such as bugs or tasks, edit or update existing work items, run work item queries stored on the server, perform quick keyword searches for particular work items, and associate work items with source control check in operations. Work item queries allow team members to track all of the tasks and other work-related issues that have been assigned to them or other members of their team, reducing the time needed to manage projects and increasing overall productivity

Team Build Integration

New in Teamprise 3.0, the Teamprise Client Suite provides integration with Microsoft's Team Build features of Team Foundation Server allowing users to create and configure Java builds from within the Teamprise UI. Builds can be started from within the Teamprise clients and build results and information is fed back into the Team Foundation Server repository for full reporting capabilities.

Project Reports and Documents

Access documents and view project reports from within the Teamprise Plug-in for Eclipse or Teamprise Explorer. Teamprise provides access to all of the documents and reports configured for the Team Project and stored on the project portal, allowing any member of the development team to stay informed and in touch with the overall state and progress of the project.

Ant and CruiseControl Integration

The Teamprise Ant Tasks provide access to the features of Team Foundation Server from within Ant scripts, allowing organizations to automate Java builds that depend upon source code stored within a Team Foundation Server repository. The CruiseControl plug-in monitors a Team Foundation Server repository for changes and will trigger builds when changes occur, allowing teams to take advantage of the benefits of continuous integration within their software development process.

Check-in Policies

Also new in Teamprise 3.0, Check-in Policies provide a way of ensuring that particular development standards and practices are followed by every member of the team, by only allowing source control check in operations after a defined policy has been met, such as a work item association. The Teamprise Client Suite comes with several key policies out-of-the-box, and also provides a complete Java framework for creating custom policies, similiar to the .NET framework provided by Microsoft with Visual Studio Team System

All Teamprise clients are written in Java and require Java 1.4/1.5 runtime environment.

Supported platforms include:

  • Microsoft Windows (x86)
  • Mac OS X (Universal)
  • Linux GTK (x86 / x64)
  • Solaris 8/9/10 GTK (SPARC)
  • AIX 5.1/5.2/5.3 Motif (Power PC)
  • HP-UX 11.0 / 11i Motif (HP PA-RISC)
