Application Compatibility Suite helps reduce the time and cost involved with validating applications for use on Vista without abandoning or reengineering older or custom applications. It provides centrally managed, elevated rights to trusted applications and they can be placed in virtual layers to allow them to run and interact with other users and processes. It is possible to install applications with required dependencies in layers to avoid conflicts with .dlls and newer files.
