Additional SQL Server 2005 Products
Express, Developer, and Mobile Editions of SQL Server that provide developers with specialized capabilities.
You will notice under the Standard and Enterprise editions of SQL Server 2005 that there are variants for Windows 32bit, X64 (generic 6bit) and IA64 (Itanium 64bit processor systems). This allows Microsoft to get an indication of the platforms clients are using.
However, Microsoft SQL Server is a "platform independent" license, so whichever variant is licensed, the user may actually use it on any one of the platforms.
Further, a customer who enrolls a platform independent license in Software Assurance is eligible to use the most current version of that particular product which is available during the term of the upgrade protection coverage, regardless of platform (as long as only one version is installed/used at a time).
